Shadows of Tython

Back to Campaign History

A day after their meeting on Empress Teta the party aboard the Grey Ghost with Kaisan covering in his fighter, the Aegis Hammer, emerges from hyperspace over Tython. They quickly take out a few patrolling Cloakshape fighters and drop into the atmosphere on course for the ancient Jedi Temple there, long thought to be abandoned. They overcome gunnery emplacement towers and land in the main hangar. As they debark from their ships, along with Master Veren, the door from the hangar bay into the rest of the Temple opens and into the cavernous room steps Joh-Kel carrying an unconscious human woman, Tyson, and…Master Veren?

The true Veren is easily discerned by Joh-Kel in short order and the impostor drops his illusion, showing himself to be a Rattataki Jedi. The Rattataki says he is a Shadow Jedi and he has foreseen all futures and asks everyone to surrender, warning the party that their power is so great that it will only prolong the war with the Sith and cost billions more lives than it otherwise should. The party stays steadfast in its conviction to defeat the Sith and refuses to surrender. The Rattataki says, “So be it. Take them!” and disappears. He was only a doppleganger illusion. As he says this, the large hangar doors slam closed and rank upon rank of Shadow Jedi initiates step out of invisibility in the hangar and reveal themselves, launching their attack. The party battles through waves of initiates in a bid for their own freedom. Kaisan force lifts his own starfighter to drop on over half a dozen Shadows, Joh-Kel races to the control room to cut open the door and then races back to the main fight, Oon unbalances and then executes Shadow after Shadow as she stands her ground with her pistol back to back with Sesta in the center of the maelstrom who is unloading waves of blaster bolts and sprays of scatter shots from his double weapon. Tyson switches into full auto attack and cuts down packs of Shadow initiates as he advances on the control room and Kirana alternates between grenades and autofire blasts of her own to guard the party’s collective back. Meanwhile, the true Master Veren unleashes burst after burst of the Force in a variety of manners to protect the party’s flanks and heal their wounds.

In the middle of the fight, the Rattataki escapes through a cargo lift passage on a speeder bike. Kaisan force leaps up into the party’s space transport, hops a speeder and pursues. As he descends into the shaft, Joh-Kel leaps onto the speeder with him and they weave their way through the complex and out into the open terrain of Tython’s forests and mountains surrounding the old Jedi temple. Landing at the Master’s Retreat a short time later, they sense the Rattataki is close. They find his speeder and disable it, as well as their own so that their foe cannot escape. The Rattataki shows himself as they move forward and the force battle is joined.

As the trio levies a torrent of Force Powers back and forth, Tyson has reached the control room back at the hangar, cleared it out, and activates the control systems to work on the doors while Kirana holds off a steady stream of charging initiates at the control room door. He brings up the ancient security system, and while none of the local cameras work, he does get a view of a reactor core, buried somewhere in the complex, building up to an overload. He grabs his commlink and notifies the team it is time to go as he locks down the hangar console and heads back the way he came with Kirana. On the hangar floor, Master Veren is cut down by three new arrivals that appear around him in a sudden sneak attack. He lies mortally wounded and out of the fight. The party scrambles to get the door to their ship open as they hold of the trio of veteran Shadow Jedi and a few straggling initiates. They get aboard, dragging Master Veren and the mystery woman Joh-Kel had been carrying earlier onto the ship as well. As they fire up the ship, they see two more turbolaser towers extending from hidden emplacement locations and swinging around to target their vessel.

Back on the platform at the Master’s Retreat, the Rattataki has been knocked prone by our heroes and as word comes over the commlink that a reactor is on build up to overload he begins to cackle maniacally. Regaining his composure, he disappears from sight and retreats. Through the Force, Joh-Kel is able to detect him and sees him moving away from the platform, further into the ruins. He and Kaisan share a look, shake their heads, and turn back to get to the speeders and frantically begin repair work.

At the Jedi Temple, Tyson lifts the Grey Ghost off the floor and Kaisan’s astromech similarly initiates the launch sequence on his fighter. The pair of ships shoot out of hangar as the Grey Ghost absorbs a few turbolaser hits with ease and its gunners return fire, turning the turbolaser towers to slag. Kirana treats the wounded in the med bay as the team homes in on Joh-Kel and Kaisan’s position via their commlinks and brings in their ships to hover over the old landing platform at the retreat. Kaisan leaps into his fighter as Joh-Kel flies up into the Grey Ghost’s open cargo bay, pulling the second speeder up behind him with the Force. Both ships rock back and nose skyward as they kick in their main drives to start the race to outrun the reactor’s blast wave. As they near orbit, a blazing white flash overwhelms aft sensors. After the the scopes clear, they can see a nuclear blast with a five mile radius has destroyed the complex and everything left in it. The team has rescued Joh-Kel, escaped, and survived the machinations of a mad Rattataki bent on stopping the party at any cost.

In the aftermath of these events, the party members share their tales and catch up with each other. They sort out that a Jedi at the Temple on Coruscant named Yahara is probably a Shadow Jedi agent and that Master Snapit had his mind altered to repress memories. They leave Master Veren at Alderaan to check on his wife and his estate, both of which are fine, and proceed on to Coruscant to sort out the mess there. Everything is quickly put to order, they get an update that the war continues badly for the Republic and there is no intelligence on where Master Hoth is being held.

Finally, the party gets a summons in the form of a recorded message from Jorda the Hutt requesting assistance with a brewing problem concerning Tempest Spice in Hutt Space. Recognizing the deadly nature of the new drug and possible negative impacts on Republic personnel and citizens, the party is sent to Nar Shaddaa by its respective authority figures to speak with Jorda and learn more.
